Dear Jason:

The Admissions Committee has completed its review of our applicants, and I am sorry to tell you that we are unable to offer you admission to MIT.

Please understand that this is in no way a judgment of you as a student or person since our decision has more to do with the applicant pool than anything else. This year we had over 8,700 candidates - a record high - for just 1,700 offers of admission from which will come our 1,040 freshmen. Our applicant pool is more self-selected than most with a very high percentage of top students, virtually all of whom have distinction in demanding academic programs as well as outstanding achievement in their lives outside the classroom. Despite what you might think, the admissions process is not an exact science. We evaluate each applicant's materials carefully and select those we judge to be best matched for our community. Remember that most of our applicants, who like you are among the best in the world, are not admitted because we simply do not have enough space in our entering class. Since all of our decisions are made at one time and all available spaces have been committed, all decisions are final.

I am very sorry to bring you such disappointing news when you have worked so hard. You are a terrific student, and I do wish you the very best as you continue your education.

• weill 2000 presidential campaign - A satire of current presidential ideals and practices. I'll only be 19 in the year 2000, but the strategies will serve well for the next millennium.
• stop censorship in schools - It's the page that almost got me suspended from school and sued for libel. See how the idiocy and ignorance of one public school administration almost cost me my future.
• syosset citizenship test - Welcome to Syosset, NY, a pleasantly hellish town where snobbery and apathy dictate. Perhaps you think that you are qualified to live amongst us. I highly recommend that you test yourself before considering a move.
• os/2 awareness page - Sadly, people have a tendency to settle for whatever gets thrust upon them. In a work that serves as a beacon for the entire world, my OS/2 Awareness Page shows how one operating system does so much, but i s appreciated so little. Featured in OS/2 Magazine.
• anti-folt page - Fat Old Librarian Technophobes. They're out there, using their ignorance to oppress knowledgeable computer users everywhere. FOLT's get their due, in hypertext. Take comfort in the experiences of others and add your own tale.
