october 2001
In May 2000, my father bought his brother a "Bucco Brick" as a 50th birthday gift. This brick is now permanently installed at Pittsburgh's PNC Park baseball stadium, home of the Pittsburgh Pirates, and sits near a statue of the late Willie Stargell. After I took a few pictures of the brick, I took some pictures of the city and campus on a sleepy Sunday morning.
The text on the brick reads:
CHARLES WEILL
CLEMENTE FAN
HAPPY 50TH H&L
5-25-2000 BX NY
Charles Weill is my uncle. "Clemente" refers to the late Pirate Roberto Clemente, my uncle's favorite player as a child. "H&L" are my parents' initials. May 25, 2000 (5-25-2000) was my uncle's 50th birthday. "BX NY" is the Bronx, New York, a borough of New York City where both of my parents grew up.
